How to Hang a Photo Frame Perfectly — A Step-by-Step Guide

How to Hang a Photo Frame Perfectly — A Step-by-Step Guide
Most of us have tried hanging a photo frame only to end up with it tilted, too high, or awkwardly placed on the wall. The good news is — it’s easier than you think! Follow these simple steps and you’ll get it right the first time.
What You’ll Need

A hammer and nail (or drill and wall plug)
A measuring tape
A pencil
A spirit level (or use your phone’s level app)

Step 1: Find the Right Height
The ideal height to hang a photo frame is at eye level — roughly 145cm to 152cm from the floor to the centre of the frame. This is the standard used by most art galleries and interior designers in Malaysia.
If you’re hanging frames above a sofa or desk, leave about 15cm to 20cm of space between the furniture and the bottom of the frame.
Step 2: Mark the Wall
Hold the frame against the wall at your desired position. Use a pencil to lightly mark the top centre of the frame on the wall. This is your reference point.
Step 3: Find the Hanging Point
Turn the frame over and measure the distance from the top of the frame to the hanging wire or hook at the back. Subtract this measurement from your pencil mark on the wall — that’s exactly where your nail should go.
Step 4: Hammer the Nail
For standard walls in Malaysian homes (brick or concrete), use a wall plug and screw for a more secure hold. If your Framelab frame was delivered with screws and wall plugs included, simply use those — everything you need is already in the box!
Step 5: Hang and Level
Hang your frame on the nail and use a spirit level to make sure it’s perfectly straight. Make tiny adjustments until it’s just right.
Step 6: Step Back and Enjoy
That’s it! Step back and admire your perfectly hung photo frame. 😊
Pro Tips

For a gallery wall with multiple frames, lay them out on the floor first to plan the arrangement before putting any nails in the wall
Use painter’s tape on the wall to map out frame positions before committing
Avoid hanging frames in direct sunlight — it can fade your photo print over time

Frame Your Moments — Why Printing and Framing Your Photos Still Matters

We all love to frame our moments and capture memories with our phones every day. It has become a natural part of our daily lives — capturing meals, sunsets, silly moments with friends, and precious milestones with family. Smartphones have made us all photographers.
But here’s the thing — most of those photos never leave your phone.
They sit buried in your gallery, rarely looked at, slowly forgotten. Printing and framing your favourite photos is the best way to keep those memories alive and make your home feel truly personal.
Why Printed Photos Mean More
There’s a big difference between scrolling past a photo on your phone and seeing it framed on your wall every single day. A framed photo becomes part of your home — it sparks conversations, brings back emotions, and reminds you of the people and moments that matter most.
Studies have shown that displaying family photos at home has a positive impact on children’s sense of belonging and self-esteem. Your walls tell your family’s story.
Your Phone Gallery is Full of Hidden Gems

Think about the photos sitting on your phone right now. Somewhere in there is:

A candid shot of your parents laughing together
Your child’s first steps or first day of school
A stunning sunset you captured on a trip
A group photo with your closest friends
A precious moment with your pet

These photos deserve better than being forgotten in a digital folder. Print them. Frame them. Put them where you can see them every day. According to Huffington Post, displaying family photos at home has a positive impact on children’s wellbeing and sense of belonging.
The Perfect Gift for Every Occasion
A framed photo is one of the most thoughtful and personal gifts you can give. It shows that you put real thought and effort into choosing something meaningful.
Framed photos make wonderful gifts for weddings, newborns, birthdays, anniversaries, housewarmings, and festive celebrations like Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, and Deepavali. It’s a gift that will be treasured for years to come.

Research by Purdue University suggests that displaying family photos at home strengthens children’s sense of identity.

Which Photos Should You Frame? A Simple Guide

Which Photos Should You Frame? 6 Ideas to Transform Your Empty Walls
Your walls are looking empty and you’ve been inspired by the world around you — the people you love, the places you’ve visited, the moments you never want to forget. You want to capture these memories, print them, frame them and hang them where you can see them every day.
But with hundreds (maybe thousands!) of photos sitting on your phone, where do you even begin?
Here are 6 simple ways to choose the perfect photos to frame for your home.

1. Personal Photos of Family and Friends
Photos of the people closest to you are always the best place to start. Whether it’s a beach holiday in Pulau Redang, your family gathered around the table during Hari Raya or Chinese New Year, or a candid shot of your kids — these photos carry real emotional value and make your home feel warm and personal.
Group similar photos together for a cohesive gallery wall. A collection of family moments in matching black frames looks stunning in any living room or hallway.

2. Colourful and Vibrant Shots
Do you have photos of the vivid purple and orange sky at sunset, blooming tropical flowers, or colourful street scenes from your travels? Colourful photos are the most eye-catching on a wall.
The key is to group photos with a similar colour palette together so they complement rather than clash. If your living room has neutral tones — white, beige or grey walls — a pop of colour from a vibrant framed photo can completely transform the space.

3. Black and White Photography
There’s something timeless about a black and white photo. Converting your favourite shots to black and white gives them an artistic, classic feel that works beautifully in any room. Portrait photos, street photography, and landscape shots all look stunning in monochrome.
Pair black and white prints with a white mat and a sleek black or neutral frame for a gallery-worthy look.

4. Architecture and Landmark Photography
Did you capture a stunning wide shot of KLCC, the Petronas Twin Towers at night, or perhaps the magnificent architecture of the Taj Mahal or the Great Wall of China on your travels? These photos deserve to be printed big.
Large architectural prints work beautifully as a single statement piece on a feature wall. Pair them with street photography or portraits of people from the same location for a cohesive travel-themed gallery wall.

5. Milestone Moments
Weddings, newborns, graduations, birthdays — these are the moments you’ll want to remember forever. Don’t leave them sitting forgotten on your phone or hard drive. Print them, frame them, and put them where you can see them every day.
A beautifully framed wedding portrait or a newborn photo makes a deeply personal and meaningful addition to any home — and makes an unforgettable gift too.

6. Your Everyday Moments
Not every photo needs to be a special occasion. Sometimes the most meaningful frames are the everyday ones — your child laughing, your pet sleeping in a funny position, a quiet morning coffee. These candid, unplanned shots often capture the real essence of life.
Don’t overthink it. If a photo makes you smile every time you see it, it deserves to be framed.
Tips for Choosing the Right Frame Size

Small prints (4R–5R): Perfect for bedside tables, shelves, or as part of a collage frame
Medium prints (8R–A3): Great for gallery walls and living room displays
Large prints (A2 and above): Ideal as a single statement piece on a feature wall
